Students Connect with Industry Expert Dr. Gary Grant
The Jindabyne class was thrilled to have one of the industry’s biggest names skype in as guest speaker this week. Dr. Gary Grant is an experienced senior executive and educator, with international experience inAustralia, Canada, Europe, South Korea, China and Japan. Currently a principal advisor at D4U Consultants in China, advising on new developments in Vietnam and recently working as the COO and Senior Vice President at a major tourism development in China after consulting in tourism and resort development, management and marketing strategies in China, Mongolia, India, Europe, Canada and Japan. Gary has been an Adviser to Australian Ski Patrol Association (ASPA), Surfing NSW, Snow NSW and Snow Australia. Advisor/consultant to Tourism NSW on regional tourism development and tourism strategies. He is an owner and operator of a small Japanese hotel business in Hakuba, Japan.
Gary is unique in that he holds a PhD in Management from the University of Canberra, Australia, and continues to have practical workplace experience in destination and resort planning, marketing, event and resort development and operations; business strategy; brand development; leadership and staff development, and still teaches. Past roles include Director of The Seer Resort Company; COO and Senior VP at Genting Secret Garden, China; General Manager Marketing Hospitality and Resort Services Perisher Blue Pty Ltd; Lecturer, University of Canberra; Director of Organisational Development; Director and General Manager of the Snowy Mountains Tourism Organisation.
Gary spoke to the class about the latest movements in resort development in China, Japan and some key learnings that he has taken from his extensive time in our industry. Some welcome career advice and “inside words” are always a special treat. Thanks Gary, much appreciated.
